Curry Bread Buns

The following is a recipe from my Aunt Rajes. My mom used to make these for us when we were kids that served well for a quick snack. When we were at university, she made these in bulk, would bake, and freeze them and send it up to us in Johannesburg. During long study sessions, these buns were amazing as you can just zap it in the microwave from frozen for about 30s-1min. Fresh and delicious. A few days ago I decided I wanted to try and make these buns and thankfully my aunt Rajes in Cape Town was kind…

A great day out at Acrobranch, Johannesburg

About 2 weeks ago, I decided that we needed to do something different and fun for a change. It was already too late in the morning to make a day trip outside of Joburg.  I remembered that there is this place that I always see just off the M1 north, before Corlett drive. After some google searches, found out it is called Acrobranch. Booked for us to go after lunch. Invited Sher to come with. It was so much fun! I recommend it if you like trying new things, want to feel like a child again, used to love climbing…

Life with a Malinois – Day 386

Chessy’s been acting up a bit this past week – digging huge holes in the garden, trying to rip our garden shade umbrella, eating roots and mud, and pooping where she shouldn’t. So difficult to correct her behaviour when it’s done when you don’t catch her in the act. Bought her some new toys today, hope it will help keep her interested and busy when we aren’t with her. Next Saturday, we are having a test at the GSD club. I think if we pass, we move up to second class (like grade 2). Not confident that I am ready.…

Stockholm

Been meaning to post about our trip to Europe since October. I havent yet completed going through the photos from the trip as yet. Let me start with Stockholm. We departed from JHB on the 29th September, a 10 hour flight via Frankfurt to Stockholm. The flight didn’t feel as long as it has on past trips. Maybe because of the sleeping tablet and it being an overnight flight.. and we had comfortable seats with no one in front of us.  We took the Arlanda express train from Arlanda airport to Stockholm central. There was a lot of information available…

Life with a Malinois – Day 293

Feels like we’ve had Chessy, our belgian shepherd Malinois, for a lifetime. She is 13 months old as of tomorrow 8 November. You can imagine the steep learning curve we have had with Chessy, being first time dog owners, being first time Malinois owners. We’ve had good days and bad days. Days when I’m sure sure that we are not the right people for her. Days that I feel she needs people who are experienced dog handlers, experienced Malinois handlers. Despite these ‘bad’ days and days of self doubt, she brings us much joy, has turned our lives inside out…

Camera bag

Just got this today! Wondering if I should have ordered the Hadley Pro size instead of the small…?  My fuji xpro 1, ipad and 35mm lens, wallet and keys fit comfortably in the small version. There really isn’t much need to carry any more gear than that in a shoulder bag for just everyday around Jozi.  Gets way too heavy and sore for the shoulder. If I need to carry more gear and some personal items, will use my trusty lowepro backpack and for even more gear and pro jobs my Foto File backpack for the whole lot.

Table Tennis

I joined the Wits table tennis club in August. Since then I have been trying to play 3 times a week. It is such fun! The guys at the club are a good bunch, as table tennis players and people. For the table tennis geeks out there, after much research and reading up on rubbers and blades, I ordered a bat from Dandoy – Donic Waldner Black Devil Carbon Balsa blade,  Donic Acuda S1,  Yasaka Rakza 7 – a very fast almost too fast combination. After a couple weeks of using it, I find it frustrating on some days, and other days so…
