Around mid-January of this year, we received “The Call”, as adoptive parents put it. It is the call from the social worker letting you know that there is a match between you the prospective parents and a baby. We met with our social worker on the 19th Jan to learn more about this baby girl. I won’t go into details, but we were able to bring our girl home on the 16th February. It’s been an incredible few days. We are so very blessed that we were chosen to be her parents. After much deliberation we decided on Jaime Ella to be her name.
Since being home, I’ve noticed much improvement in the strengthening of her legs and neck. She is having more milk at feeding times and there is minimal bringing up of milk vs. when while we visited her at the children’s haven. Lots of smiling, cooing, gurgling and eye-contact. At night, she is sleeping 4 to 5 hours at a time.
I already have a few “scarred for life” stories for the poop diaries, which I will spare you from!
I have 3 different baby carriers, the NooNoo Pie wrap, the Lyssa Love Mei Tai wrap and another simpler to use one from Babycity. So far none of them are what I’m looking for. The Mei Tai carrier is probably the most comfortable but I find the incredible long straps cumbersome! The carrier from Babycity would be great if they added a waist strap to help distribute weight off the shoulders. We’ve had one outing with the Mei Tai and another with the Babycity carrier.
We are both enjoying being parents to this wonderful baby girl.
There is still a long road ahead for the adoption order, then the name change and then unabridged birth certificate. Why can’t adoption be made a bit more streamlined in terms of processing?
