The mountains or the sea for our December holiday? I chose the mountains. We booked in at Esiweni Lodge which is in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve just outside of Ladysmith in KZN. It is a small lodge with only 6 rooms – super luxury rooms with the most stunning view from your private deck. The lodge sits on the top of a cliff looking down into a valley with a river running through it. There are 2 game drives per day included in the room rate as well as 3 meals per day. We stayed for 5 nights which I think was a bit too long for me, 3 nights would have been perfect. There is no television and no cellphone reception and it is difficult to leave the reserve on your own as you need a 4×4 to get to the car park where you leave your car for the duration of your stay. If you want awesome views, wonderful service, game drives and gourmet dining in a beautiful part of the country and to be cut off from the world for a little bit – this is the place to go! Elize, the lodge’s game ranger is an Encyclopedia of knowledge from plants to animals to the stars. Visit some time, you won’t be disappointed.
